Welcome to Flen – the heart of Sörmland

Welcome to the heart of Sörmland - a place for experiences and revival. An urban area made up of seven smaller towns that all contribute to making Flen Munici- pality inviting and welcoming. Castles and manor houses, 170 lakes, a pleasant market town with a popular market, shopping in the old mill area, local food producers and cultural organisers who all blend in with the beautiful nature that surrounds Flen Municipality. You are welcome to experience it with us.

Malmköping

This is where the Södermanland Regiment was posted between 1774 and 1921. The borough has been a natural meeting place with markets ever since.

The old market, Malmamarken, evenings at the town market square and the farmers’ market attract many visitors. You will find many small places of accommodation, shops, cafés and restaurants. It was in Malmköping where the 100-year-old Allan Karlsson, from the book, climbed out of the window and disappeared. The charming old homestead has a tourist office open during the summer months, a candle barn, a textile museum and other small museums. In winter, the fine Malmabacken facility provides good downhill skiing.

Hälleforsnäs

A factory town with shopping and culture. This town has its origins in hydropower and iron, it grew into a large and modern industry town.

In its time, the factory was one of the largest foundries in northern Europe. Now there is a small shopping area that has developed with the Lager 157 clothes shop, the Jürss Mejeri that produces and sells award winning cheese, a garden boutique, a summer theatre, a tourist office and an art gallery that has become an established arts scene in the region, and the foundry museum telling the story of the factory. Adjacent is the Bruksdammen pond, a pleasant excursion goal for everybody. Close by is also the best nature trail with accessibility requirements in all of Sörmland, four kilometres long.

Mellösa

A well-preserved church village and includes the Prime minister’s residence. Beautifully located in an old area with cultural traditions, rich in music and culture. Just outside Mellösa is the Prime minister residence of Harpsund. A popular goal for excursions is the flea market next to the church village.

Sparreholm

Sparreholm is as close as you can get to centre of Sörmland and called the “Gateway to Båven” with Sörmland’s biggest and most beautiful lake.

There are several exciting destinations here: Sparreholm’s castle and museums, Gråfors nostalgia museum, Rockelstad castle, Båven’s spinning house and the large Fabriken shopping outlet. Here you can find restaurants and cafés, antique and flea markets, that are well worth a visit on the outskirts of the village. In the neighbouring village of Skebokvarn is the Canoe Centre with canoe rental, a bed and breakfast and a summer café. There is also a countryside café here, which arranges a variety of spring and summer activities. No fewer than five canoe routes originate from Skebokvarn.
